For sintered metal powder filters, ISO 4022 defines the specification designations and tolerances. The sections below describe the scope, the properties it leaves to companion standards, and the equivalent designations across standards bodies.
ISO 4022 — Scope
ISO 4022 specifies the designation system, dimensions and tolerances of sintered metal powder filters — mesh count or nominal opening, wire diameter and the permissible aperture deviations. Alloy chemistry, mechanical testing and delivery condition are governed by separate documents in the same standards family.
Tolerance Classes
ISO 4022 defines tolerance limits on the average aperture and on the maximum single aperture, tightening as the aperture gets finer. For test-sieve duty the tighter ISO 3310-1 tolerances apply instead of the general cloth tolerances — specify sieve grade explicitly if the mesh will be used for particle-size analysis.
Specifications Defined by ISO 4022
| Micron rating (u00b5m) | Thickness (mm) | Form | Available shapes | Reference standard |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.5 | 1.5-3.0 | Powder | Disc / cup / tube / sheet | ISO 4022 |
| 2 | 1.5-3.0 | Powder | Disc / cup / tube / sheet | ISO 4022 |
| 10 | 1.5-3.0 | Powder | Disc / cup / tube / sheet | ISO 4022 |
| 40 | 2.0-3.0 | Powder | Disc / cup / tube / sheet | ISO 4022 |
| 100 | 2.0-3.0 | Powder | Disc / cup / tube / sheet | ISO 4022 |
Equivalent Standards
ISO 4022 defines permeability testing of sintered permeable metal media.
When to Specify ISO 4022
Choose ISO 4022 for international procurement and OEM supply where ISO documents are the contractual reference. It is the default modern specification for sintered metal powder filters.
