Brass Wire Mesh is used for screening, sieving and decorating with woven brass cloth that is spark-resistant, non-magnetic and keeps a warm gold color. ASTM E2016 is the reference cited for it on drawings, datasheets and purchase orders.
What ASTM E2016 Means for Brass Wire Mesh
The dimensions in the table below are supplied to suit ASTM E2016. Where the standard sets requirements for the finished appliance, device or system, compliance testing of that assembly stays with its manufacturer; we supply the metal mesh part to the drawing and can provide material certificates and dimensional reports with the shipment.
Equivalent Standards
ASTM E2016 is the US counterpart of ISO 9044 for industrial woven wire cloth.

Specifying Brass Wire Mesh Beyond the Standard
- Alloy: CuZn35 (H65) is standard; specify H62 for stiffer cloth or lead-free brass where water contact is regulated.
- Mesh: 8–20 mesh for decorative and strainer use; 40–100 mesh for sieving.
- Finish: Natural, lacquered to hold the gold tone, or antique-dark for interiors.
When Brass Wire Mesh Is Not the Right Choice
Not for chloride-rich water, ammonia, or food CIP chemistry — use phosphor bronze or stainless instead.
