Nickel Wire Mesh is used for serving as electrodes, current collectors and caustic-resistant filter cloth in batteries, electrolyzers and alkaline chemical processes. ISO 9044 is the reference cited for it on drawings, datasheets and purchase orders.
What ISO 9044 Means for Nickel Wire Mesh
The dimensions in the table below are supplied to suit ISO 9044. Where the standard sets requirements for the finished appliance, device or system, compliance testing of that assembly stays with its manufacturer; we supply the metal mesh part to the drawing and can provide material certificates and dimensional reports with the shipment.
Equivalent Standards
ISO 9044 (industrial woven wire cloth) corresponds closely to ASTM E2016; both use the ISO 565 / ASTM E11 aperture series as their dimensional backbone.
Nickel Wire Mesh Dimensions
| Mesh count | Wire diameter (mm) | Aperture (mm) | Micron rating (u00b5m) | Open area (%) | Alloy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 40-Mesh | 0.180 | 0.455 | 455 | 51.0 | Nickel 200 (N02200) |
| 60-Mesh | 0.150 | 0.273 | 273 | 41.6 | Nickel 200 (N02200) |
| 80-Mesh | 0.120 | 0.198 | 198 | 38.7 | Nickel 200 (N02200) |
| 100-Mesh | 0.100 | 0.154 | 154 | 36.8 | Nickel 200 (N02200) |
| 200-Mesh | 0.050 | 0.077 | 77 | 36.8 | Nickel 201 (N02201) |
Specifying Nickel Wire Mesh Beyond the Standard
- Grade: Nickel 200 for general use; Nickel 201 (low carbon) above 315 °C.
- Mesh & wire: 40–100 mesh for electrodes; finer mesh for filtration.
- Form: Rolls, cut sheets, activated or expanded nickel for electrolyzer stacks.
When Nickel Wire Mesh Is Not the Right Choice
Not for oxidizing acids or sulfur-bearing hot gases; choose Inconel or Hastelloy there.
