Hydraulic Tank Suction Strainer (ISO 2941 / NFPA T3.10) is used for protecting hydraulic pumps from large particles at the tank outlet with a threaded wire mesh suction strainer that sits below the oil level.
Also known as: hydraulic suction strainer, metal mesh suction filter, tank suction strainer, pump inlet strainer
Thread & flow: Match the pump suction port; size by flow so pressure drop stays below about 0.1 bar.
Rating: 74 or 149 µm (100 or 200 mesh) to protect the pump without cavitation.
Bypass: A 0.2 bar bypass valve protects the pump if the strainer clogs.
Materials
Standard supply is stainless steel 304; the material column in the table and the drawing options show the exact grade for each size. Other alloys and finishes can be quoted to your drawing.
Fitting & Care
Install at least 50 mm above the tank bottom and fully submerged at low oil level.
Clean at each oil change and inspect for collapsed mesh.
Common Mistakes
Choosing a finer rating than the pump can tolerate, causing cavitation.
Mounting too close to the tank bottom, where sludge collects.
When Hydraulic Tank Suction Strainer Is Not the Right Choice
Not a replacement for pressure or return-line filters that control oil cleanliness.
Hydraulic Tank Suction Strainer is made to order as finished parts. Indicative pricing starts from about US$6.50 per piece for a standard size at production quantity; the final price depends on size, material, finish, tooling and order volume. Hydraulic Tank Suction Strainer — ISO 2941 / NFPA T3.10
Protecting hydraulic pumps from large particles at the tank outlet with a threaded wire mesh suction strainer that sits below the oil level.
What does a hydraulic suction strainer do?
It keeps large debris out of the pump inlet.
What micron rating for suction strainers?
Usually 74 or 149 µm.
Why have a bypass?
To prevent pump cavitation if the strainer clogs.
What is the specification range of Hydraulic Tank Suction Strainer?
The table on this page lists 4 standard specifications for Hydraulic Tank Suction Strainer, from 3/4 in to 3 in. Specifications outside the table — custom mesh counts, wire diameters, roll widths and fabricated pieces — can be quoted on request.
How do I request a quotation?
Use the parametric drawing on this page to set the exact configuration (specification, material, treatment) and click "Request this configuration" — a specialist from custommetalfilters.com will respond within one business day.
