Airbag Inflator Filter is used for cooling the hot gas from a pyrotechnic airbag inflator and trapping burning slag particles so the cushion fills with clean, cooler gas. USCAR-24 is the reference cited for it on drawings, datasheets and purchase orders.
What USCAR-24 Means for Airbag Inflator Filter
The dimensions in the table below are supplied to suit USCAR-24. Where the standard sets requirements for the finished appliance, device or system, compliance testing of that assembly stays with its manufacturer; we supply the metal mesh part to the drawing and can provide material certificates and dimensional reports with the shipment.
Airbag Inflator Filter Dimensions
| Size | Outer diameter (mm) | Length (mm) | Wire diameter (mm) | Construction | Density (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Driver 55 | 55 | 22 | 0.30 | Knitted + pressed | 28 |
| Driver 62 | 62 | 25 | 0.30 | Knitted + pressed | 30 |
| Passenger 38 | 38 | 120 | 0.40 | Layered woven + knitted | 32 |
| Side 26 | 26 | 60 | 0.25 | Knitted + pressed | 26 |
Specifying Airbag Inflator Filter Beyond the Standard
- Density & mass: Pressed density and part weight set the cooling capacity and pressure drop; both are controlled per lot.
- Wire: Knitted carbon or stainless wire of 0.25–0.40 mm, sometimes layered with woven screen.
- Dimensions: Outer and inner diameter and length to the inflator drawing, typically ±0.1 mm.
When Airbag Inflator Filter Is Not the Right Choice
Not a general-purpose gas filter; the design is validated only inside its specific inflator.
