Airbag Inflator Filter is used for cooling the hot gas from a pyrotechnic airbag inflator and trapping burning slag particles so the cushion fills with clean, cooler gas. ISO 12097 is the reference cited for it on drawings, datasheets and purchase orders.
What ISO 12097 Means for Airbag Inflator Filter
The dimensions in the table below are supplied to suit ISO 12097. Where the standard sets requirements for the finished appliance, device or system, compliance testing of that assembly stays with its manufacturer; we supply the metal mesh part to the drawing and can provide material certificates and dimensional reports with the shipment.
Airbag Inflator Filter Dimensions
| Size | Outer diameter (mm) | Length (mm) | Wire diameter (mm) | Construction | Density (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Driver 55 | 55 | 22 | 0.30 | Knitted + pressed | 28 |
| Driver 62 | 62 | 25 | 0.30 | Knitted + pressed | 30 |
| Passenger 38 | 38 | 120 | 0.40 | Layered woven + knitted | 32 |
| Side 26 | 26 | 60 | 0.25 | Knitted + pressed | 26 |
Specifying Airbag Inflator Filter Beyond the Standard
- Density & mass: Pressed density and part weight set the cooling capacity and pressure drop; both are controlled per lot.
- Wire: Knitted carbon or stainless wire of 0.25–0.40 mm, sometimes layered with woven screen.
- Dimensions: Outer and inner diameter and length to the inflator drawing, typically ±0.1 mm.
When Airbag Inflator Filter Is Not the Right Choice
Not a general-purpose gas filter; the design is validated only inside its specific inflator.
