316L Stainless Steel Self-Cleaning Backwash Filter Screen Element

A cylindrical sintered stainless steel mesh screen element beside an opened automatic self-cleaning water filter housing

Self-Cleaning Backwash Filter Screen Element in 316L Stainless Steel (AISI 316L (1.4404)) is used for filtering water and process liquids continuously in automatic self-cleaning filters, where a sintered-mesh or wedge-wire cylinder is back-washed by a suction scanner without stopping flow. The alloy gives superior resistance, including chlorides, brines, food CIP and mild acids and is essentially non-magnetic, with a practical service limit of approx. +550 °C continuous.

Where 316L Stainless Steel Self-Cleaning Backwash Filter Screen Element Is Used

  • Cooling water: automatic filters on cooling towers and heat exchangers.
  • Irrigation: automatic filters on center pivots and drip systems.
  • Desalination: seawater pre-filters ahead of RO membranes.
  • Process water: steel mills, paper machines and food plants.

Ordering Self-Cleaning Backwash Filter Screen Element in 316L Stainless Steel

  • Element size: Match the filter housing diameter and length.
  • Rating: 25–500 µm chosen for the downstream equipment.
  • Construction: Multi-layer sintered mesh for fine ratings; wedge wire for coarse, abrasive water.

Mistakes to Avoid with Self-Cleaning Backwash Filter Screen Element

  • Choosing too fine a rating, so the filter backwashes continuously.
  • Running with a torn layer that lets debris through.
