Cleaning & Compatibility

Stainless multi-layer filter packs can be cleaned by backflush, ultrasonic bath, steam and most CIP chemistry. Two cautions: (1) avoid extended contact with hydrochloric acid or hypochlorite sanitizers, which pit even 316; (2) where the mesh contacts carbon steel during fabrication or service, iron pick-up can rust-stain the surface — specify passivation after fabrication.

Should I choose 304 or 316 for multi-layer filter packs?

304 covers general indoor/outdoor and fresh-water service at lower cost; 316/316L is the default wherever chlorides, brines, food CIP chemistry or mild acids are present. If in doubt about the media, 316L is the safer specification.

Is 316L Stainless Steel food-grade?

Stainless 304 and 316 are both accepted food-contact materials; 316L is preferred where chloride-bearing CIP or brines are used. Specify electro-polishing for the smoothest, most cleanable surface.

Can 316L Stainless Steel multi-layer filter packs be welded into frames?

Yes — spot, TIG and plasma welding are standard for framing and edging. Use matching filler, keep heat input low to protect the fine wires, and re-passivate stainless after fabrication.

Is 316L Stainless Steel multi-layer filter packs magnetic?

316L Stainless Steel multi-layer filter packs is essentially non-magnetic. Note that heavy cold-working during weaving can make austenitic stainless slightly magnetic at the wire surface.
