316L Stainless Steel Photo-Etched Mesh Sheet

A thin flat sheet of photo-etched stainless steel mesh with a dense field of tiny holes held up to light in a clean workshop

Photo-Etched Mesh Sheet in 316L Stainless Steel (AISI 316L (1.4404)) is used for supplying burr-free, flat filter and screen sheet with micro-holes from 0.05 mm, made by photo-chemical etching of thin stainless, nickel or copper foil. The alloy gives superior resistance, including chlorides, brines, food CIP and mild acids and is essentially non-magnetic, with a practical service limit of approx. +550 °C continuous.

Where 316L Stainless Steel Photo-Etched Mesh Sheet Is Used

  • Filter manufacturers: sheet stock for cutting and forming filter parts.
  • Medical & laboratory: flat micro-perforated sieves and supports.
  • Acoustics & electronics: speaker meshes, vents and EMI windows.
  • Prototyping: test sheets before tooling a punched part.

Ordering Photo-Etched Mesh Sheet in 316L Stainless Steel

  • Hole and pitch: Holes from 0.05 mm, roughly equal to or larger than the foil thickness.
  • Foil: 0.05–0.3 mm SS304/316L, nickel, copper or titanium.
  • Sheet size & margins: Up to about 500 × 600 mm with solid borders for handling.

Mistakes to Avoid with Photo-Etched Mesh Sheet

  • Requesting holes smaller than the foil thickness.
  • Expecting woven-mesh open area from very fine etched holes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How small can etched mesh holes be?

Down to about 0.05 mm in thin foil.

Etched mesh or woven mesh?

Etched mesh is flat and burr-free with exact holes; woven mesh gives higher open area at low cost.
